A railway bridge replacement project is to begin in Chester.

Engineers will start redeveloping the existing structure on Brook Lane from Monday, 12 September.

The new bridge will require less future maintenance and will improve the reliability of the railway through the city.

The nine-month project is being carried out as part of Network Rail's £40 billion Railway Upgrade Plan.

A drop-in event is to take place for local residents to find out more information about the scheme. The exhibition will be held from 4pm – 7pm at Live New Scene youth centre in Limwood Close on Monday, 12 September.

Bell, scheme project manager from Network Rail, said: "This work is part of our Railway Upgrade Plan which will provide a better and more reliable railway for Britain. We recognise the work to install this new bridge will cause some disruption and thank people in advance for their patience. The bridge is coming to the end of its useful, safe life and to ensure the railway and road bridge continue to be safe and reliable, we have to replace it."

The project is scheduled to be complete by Friday, 09 June.
