An industry manufacturing firm has been fined after an engineer broke his arm during commissioning work in Coventry.
Sovex Limited, of Prenton Business Park, Prenton Way, Prenton, Wirral, was found guilty of breaching Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974. It was fined £170,000 with £24,000 in costs.
Warwick Crown Court heard how a company installation engineer was commissioning a new conveyor belt system at a UK Mail site on 21 January 2015. However, his arm was pulled into the machinery and broken.
A Health and Safety Executive (HSE) investigation found there was a lack of effective guarding and isolation procedures on the machinery.
