Approval Granted For Balfour Beatty VINCI M4 Motorway Scheme

Development consent has been granted for a multimillion-pound scheme on the M4 motorway.

A joint venture (JV) between Balfour Beatty and VINCI will upgrade a 32-mile stretch of the route from Junctions 3 to 12 in London and Berkshire.

The scheme aims to increase capacity, reduce congestion and shorten journey times on the road. The hard shoulder will be converted to a permanent running lane, while electronic signs will be installed to manage traffic flows.

The development is part of a £1.5 billion investment to build 10 'smart motorways' and is expected to cost between £500 – 800 million.

The scheme is to begin in March 2017, with completion scheduled by the end of March 2022.
