HSS Hire has launched a new health campaign backed by Cancer Research UK to raise awareness about skin cancer.
The tool and equipment hire company has devised a sun safety initiative with Sir Robert McAlpine to ensure free sunscreen is available at the new multi-million pound Bloomberg site in central London.
Unique sun reactive posters have been placed around the one million sq ft development, which transform from a colourless face in a hardhat into a skull once exposed to ultraviolet light
The campaign is the first of its kind to harness the technology in poster format and aims to raise awareness on skin cancer for the 1,200 workers employed across the site. If successful, the posters could be rolled out at all HSS Onsite facilities across the nation.
David Branch from HSS said: "Safety is our number one priority at HSS which is why we're working with Sir Robert McAlpine and Cancer Research UK in raising awareness around being sun safe on site.
"When you're working for prolonged periods outside, your skin is exposed to dangerous rays which is subsequently why 55% of skin cancer patients are construction workers.
"We want to ensure we are doing our bit to protect workers on site and remind them that too much sun exposure without protection can lead to long term skin damage.”
