Doncaster Council has signed a construction charter which ensures minimum standards are met for workers on future industry projects in the region.
The local authority is the latest council to sign the document, following Wakefield, Sheffield and Barnsley councils.
The pledge is designed to abolish various industry practices such as false self-employment, umbrella companies and blacklisting by construction companies.
In addition, it contains minimum standards for firms to uphold such as welfare facilities, the promotion of NVQ Level 3 for apprenticeships and guarantees that all workers are employed under the relevant industrial agreement
Union UCATT, which signed the charter with Doncaster Council alongside unions Unite and GMB, said it is monitoring projects being undertaken by councils who have signed the charters to ensure they comply with its regulations.
Rob Morris, Regional Secretary for UCATT Yorkshire, said: "We are pleased by the decision of Doncaster Council to sign the charter. Slowly but surely more councils in Yorkshire are signing up to construction charters, which means we will be able to ensure rogue employers are prevented from receiving council work.
"The clear winners are construction workers who will now they will be treated decently and fairly when undertaking these projects."
