Network Rail has completed upgrade work to a railway station in Lancashire.

Engineers replaced the subway roof and carried out platform improvements at Chorley station over the bank holiday weekend.

In addition, workers carried out upgrades to the alter track which will allow overhead power lines to be installed in the area.

The project is part of Network Rail's £1 billion Northern Programmes investment to enable electric trains to travel through the station from December 2017.

Noel Connolly, head of programme management for Network Rail, said: "The upgrade and wider investment will result in a better, more reliable railway that will serve passengers for many decades to come."
