Keepmoat has begun work on a new £7.6 million extra-care development scheme in Derbyshire.
The contractor is building 53 new apartments, a 20-place specialist residential care centre and communal facilities for Housing & Care 21 on Brown Edge Road in Buxton.
The Homes and Communities Agency has provided a £1m cash boost towards the scheme and a ground-breaking ceremony to mark the start of construction took place on Tuesday.
Nathan Brough, regional director for Keepmoat, said: "We are delighted to be starting works on this exciting scheme with our partners. This new development will help to drive forward our shared ambition of expanding the choice of high quality retirement housing to ensure the older generation enjoy life to the fullest whilst maintaining their independence."
The development is due to be completed in December 2017.
