Construction work to upgrade the Farnworth and Kearsley junction in Bolton has been completed.

A total of £800,000 has been invested to improve the intersection of Higher Market Street, Longcauseway, Bolton Road and Old Hall Street.

Engineers upgraded the traffic signals, resurfaced the carriageway and added a left turn lane into Old Hall Street as part of a project delivered in partnership by Bolton Council and Transport for Greater Manchester.

The aim of the work was to increase capacity at the junction, improve traffic flow and reduce congestion.

Bolton Council's Cabinet Member for Highways, Councillor Elaine Sherrington, said: "This was an important and necessary improvement programme for what is a busy junction.

"Now the work is complete, it should have the beneficial knock-on effect of easing congestion at the nearby Kearsley roundabout junction.

"We would like to thank motorists and residents for their patience while the work has been carried out."

The £800,000 scheme was funded by the Greater Manchester Local Growth Deal and delivered as part of the Salford Bolton Network Improvement Programme.
