Work on a £10 million scheme to improve and upgrade roads in Derbyshire is continuing.

The work is part of Derbyshire County Council's £23m investment over three years to halt deterioration on key parts of the road network by patching and surface dressing.

The surface dressing programme, running between May and the end of September, will cover more than 280 miles of the county's roads. Around 200 miles have already been completed.

Cabinet Member for Highways, Transport and Infrastructure, Councillor Dean Collins, said: "We are facing unprecedented cuts. By 2020 the funding we get from Government will be more than a third lower than in 2010 so this affects how much we can spend on maintaining our roads and other highways infrastructure.

"Surface dressing, at the right time, before a road deteriorates to the point where it needs resurfacing is an effective way of making maintenance funds go further."
