BAM Construction has reached a milestone on its £17.5 million project for the University of Lincoln.

The contractor has now completed 50,000 hours of building work without any accidents on the University's new Isaac Newton Building. The 65-week build programme is on schedule to be completed next spring.

Drone flights were carried out through the 7,432 sq m site to allow BAM to assess the progress and sequencing of works at higher elevations against the computer modelling for the build.

Ryan Geldard, BAM's project safety manager, said drone checks are more accurate and can help contractors better evaluate safety and logistics.

"The digitalisation process for construction will keep accelerating but you cannot replace the value of good communication with the people who work here and holding frequent, proper briefings on each phase of activity is what keeps us co-ordinated and safe," he said.

BAM is also delivering the University's nearby Sarah Swift Building to house the schools of health and social care and psychology, with completion scheduled for summer 2017.
