Keepmoat has revealed plans to create a new £35.5 million housing development in Wigan.

The housebuilder has purchased the site of a former Barr's soft drink factory and plans to deliver 194 homes as part of a regeneration project.

Work on the 'Cottonfields' development is expected to get underway next month. In addition, to new housing, features will include a public open space and two children's play areas.

Gareth Roberts, Regional Managing Director for Keepmoat in the North West, said: "We very much specialise in providing homes for the first time buyer market and so we're excited to be bringing our offer to Wigan.

"This major regeneration project will create employment and training opportunities throughout the build process so we can put back into the local economy."

Keepmoat added that it will work with Wigan Council to examine further areas for regeneration in the region.
