Turner & Townsend (T&T) has been selected to provide commercial support services on the £4.2 billion Thames Tideway Tunnel project.

The four-year deal involves the company providing project and programme management resources. It was one of three consultants selected to the commercial support services framework.

As the second largest infrastructure project in the capital, the Thames Tideway Tunnel involves creating a 25km long sewer tunnel to reduce millions of tonnes of raw sewage that overflow into the River Thames each year.

Work on the project is underway and completion is scheduled for 2023.

Peter Depledge, T&T's Director of Infrastructure, said: "We're delighted to be playing a role in ensuring the timely delivery of such a huge and important project which will deliver a positive outcome for Londoners for generations ahead."

Mark Sneesby, Chief Operating Officer at Thames Tideway, added: "As we start main construction work on the Thames Tideway Tunnel, we are confident that having the knowledge and expertise of three of the most prominent consultancies will be a huge asset in our work to clean up London's river."
