Graham Construction has started building work on a new £11.3 million railway station in Warwickshire.

The new station is being built in Kenilworth and is scheduled to open in late 2017.

Features of the development includes a main station 'heritage style' building and footbridge, incorporating design elements from the original station which was closed in 1965.

Modern facilities will also be developed such as cycle facilities, public wi-fi access,an external ticket vending machine, and a community cafe.

In addition, two original stained glass windows and a Kenilworth rail station sign from the town's former station have been donated to Warwickshire County Council to be included in the new station.

The project is being funded by the Department for Transport (DfT), the council and Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) as part of the £88.6 million Growth Deal Package for Coventry and Warwickshire.

Leo Martin, executive director, GRAHAM Construction said: "We are delighted to have been awarded this contract by Warwickshire County Council and throughout the duration of this project we, as we do on all of our contracts, will work with the local supply chain as well as engaging with the local community to ensure there is minimal disruption during the course of this project."
