Keepmoat To Deliver £15m Leytonstone Housing Development

Construction News Image
Keepmoat has secured a £15 million contract to deliver a new housing development in Leytonstone.

The housebuilder will work in partnership with housing association (HA) Family Mosaic to deliver 79 homes in Waltham Forest.

The project involves building four new housing blocks on two sites called Stonelea and Thornebury, which were purchased by Family Mosaic from the NHS in 2014.

The development will help the HA reach its target of building 2,300 homes by 2018.

Features include creating a large communal garden and a 'village green' style amenity space, as well as private gardens for the houses and a number of ground floor flats. Demolition, site clearance and enabling works are scheduled to begin soon.

Outline planning was originally approved for 58 units with 14% 'affordable' housing provision, but the sites were purchased on the basis of achieving a higher density scheme. Working together with Alan Camp Architects, the HA managed to increase the number of units to 79 while 'affordable' housing provision has risen to 30%.

Angela Wood, Development Director from Family Mosaic said: "Waltham Forest is an area with great opportunities to build new homes and communities. We are glad to be able to play a part in the Council's far reaching plans by developing a scheme that provides a range of tenures and with a great design. We look forward to working with Keepmoat to deliver this scheme."

Dan Germann, Regional Managing Director of Keepmoat added: "The aim of this project is to create affordable and high quality homes for rent and shared ownership for people in Waltham Forest, in line with the council's plans. We are excited to be working with Family Mosaic for the first time and we are all looking forward to getting started."

Keepmoat is scheduled to complete the scheme by Summer 2018.
