Planning has been approved for a major estate regeneration scheme in Surrey.

The project involves building 922 new homes along with various other facilities on the Sheerwater Estate near Woking.

The scheme has been developed by New Vision Homes, a joint venture (JV) between Balfour Beatty and Pinnacle Housing Association.

The first phase of the project is scheduled to begin later next year.

Cllr David Bittleston said: "The decision to grant planning consent is crucial to the regeneration of Sheerwater. The scale and nature of the overall development, as well as detailed plans of the first phase of residential development and community leisure facilities, have been established and rigorously tested against local and national planning policy.

"With Planning Committee approval it will now be for the Council to have the final say on whether or not to progress with the regeneration scheme. It is my hope that we will be able to approve suitable implementation arrangements before Christmas 2016 and be able to start work improving the area by Autumn 2017 with the early implementation of new community leisure facilities at Bishop David Brown School."
