The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) has appointed Turner & Townsend's (T&T) Project Management director, Paul Nash, as its new president.

With over 30 years' experience in the industry, Mr Nash is one of the few presidents to have worked in both the contracting and the consultancy side of the industry.

During his inaugural address to colleagues, the 113th president said one of his key objectives is to make ethics a central theme for the organisation.

Over the next 12 months, the CIOB is due to release a new Code of Conduct detailing what both the public and the industry should expect of a CIOB member.

In addition, specific training on ethics and governance will be developed, along with the CIOB's own work to help in the creation of an International Standard for Ethics in the built environment.

Mr Nash said: "We are all responsible for the reputation of this industry and for the wellbeing of the people who work within it. No matter what country we work in.

"Ethics defines what it means to be a professional. Behaving ethically entails tough decisions. And we have a responsibility to help our members make those right decisions."
