Galliford Try has completed a £4.5 million scheme to develop a new footbridge for Network Rail.

The Lincoln High Street footbridge, which has been officially opened, will give pedestrians an alternative to waiting at the level crossing when a train is due or passing.

The bridge is a single-span (21m) steel-frame lattice-girder structure. The towers and a deck were lifted in during overnight possessions last January. The towers have since been clad in weatherboarding, insulation and a final layer of composite stone cladding and include lifts with associated hydraulics. The deck walkway features an unusual glass balustrade to make it light and inviting for users.

Nick Salt, Managing Director of Galliford Try's rail business, said: "The bridge has been a challenging but satisfying project to undertake because of the amount of night work and the complexities of getting plant and materials particularly the steel bridge sections to site in such a busy, central location. We thank the public and road users for their patience and cooperation during the works."
