Construction firm Morgan Sindall has partnered with Bournemouth University (BU) to design and build a new development.
The Bournemouth Gateway Building, if given planning permission, will house the University's Faculty of Health and Social Sciences and Morgan Sindall is in advanced discussions with the university on the final plans for the development.
The development will be situated at Lansdowne and will provide a visual gateway to Bournemouth University and the Lansdowne.
BU recently submitted a planning application to Bournemouth Borough Council.
The proposed building will provide circa 10,000 sq m of new academic space which will be accessible to all Bournemouth University students and the local community.
Jim Andrews, Chief Operating Officer, said: "This new development will help us achieve our vision of providing world-class facilities for a world-class university.
"If we are to continue producing the midwives, nurses and social workers of the future, then we need the facilities to attract the best.
"Our staff and students contribute more than £1 million a day to the south west economy and support just less than one full-time equivalent (FTE) job in the local conurbation for every 7.4 students.
"For this to continue we must remain competitive and updating our facilities, such as this fantastic new academic building for our highly regarded faculty of Health and Social Sciences, is essential to that."
