Lincolnshire County Council has chosen four firms to bid for a £96 million deal to build Lincoln's Eastern Bypass.

The firms shortlisted are: Hochtief UK and Carillion Construction; two joint ventures have also been short-listed, the first of which is John Sisk and Lagan, and the second John Graham and Graham Farrans.

It is anticipated that work will start in autumn 2016 and it is expected to take approximately two years to complete.

Executive member for highways and transport, Cllr Richard Davies, said: "The construction phase of the eastern bypass will provide a fantastic boost the local economy as it creates work for local construction and land-work companies. Each of the four companies shortlisted for the two-year contract will now be looking at the finer detail in their submissions which will include the need to subcontract some of this work out to smaller companies. I would urge any local company interested in this work to put their hand in as soon as possible by contacting the four companies direct."

The 7.5km bypass will link the A158 Wragby Road roundabout to the A15 at Bracebridge Heath.
