Morgan Sindall has won an £8 million manufacturing contract for the Northern Line Extension project in Battersea.

The company's specialist Ridham Precast Facility will begin making bespoke concrete segments which slot together to form tunnel rings from July.

The order has been placed by FLO, the Ferrovial Agroman Laing O'Rourke joint venture responsible for delivering the infrastructure project, on behalf of Transport for London (TfL).

Features include 3,280 concrete tunnel rings, which will be 5.2 metres in diameter and line 2.4 kilometres of twin tunnels. Around 70 tunnel rings will be produced a week.

David Hicks, Morgan Sindall's senior operations manager at the Ridham facility, said: "It's great to be remobilising the facility and recreating opportunities for the local community. We're currently re-commissioning the factory, getting it ready for production ahead of the start-up date in July. We're pleased that our capabilities here will help with the completion of key infrastructure upgrades in London."
