Wates Construction has began building a new luxury retirement village in Worcestershire.

The new Audley Ellerslie development is being built in Great Malvern for Audley Retirement.

The project involves renovating three Victorian mansions, one of which is Grade II listed, to create 101 one, two and three-bedroom apartments for over 60s.

Other features include a steam room and sauna, a restaurant, a bar/bistro and spa.

The first phase of the development is due to be completed in early 2017.

To mark the start of construction, a ground-breaking ceremony was held on 17 June.

Nick Sanderson, Chief Executive Officer of Audley Retirement, said: "We are excited to begin work on this new development and would like to thank the local community for its warm reception.

"We have already seen a great deal of interest in the village, demonstrating the continued need for innovative and high quality retirement living options, both in this region and nationwide. Our aim is always to provide high quality, luxury housing, ensuring owners can live independently and on their own terms."
