Lakesmere is underway with cladding work on a new £17 million steamboat museum in Cumbria.

The new Windermere Jetty facility is being built by Thomas Armstrong (Construction).

The project has been designed by architects Carmody Groarke after it submitted the winning design for a Royal Institute of British Architects design competition.

It will replace the existing museum and will rehouse the significant boat collection on the shores of Windermere in the Lake District National Park.

In addition, exhibition space is being created for the display of steam launches, motorboats, yachts and other vessels.

Lakesmere's project includes designing and installing a traditionally folded copper standing seam roofing system over Metdeck insulated plywood roofing boards.

Insulated walling comprising of an SFS sub-structure will also be developed, with an external skin of castellated copper profiles being utilised as a rainscreen.

The new museum is due to open in 2017.
