£800,000 Floodwall Project Completed In Bristol

Work to build a £800,000 floodwall in Bristol is now complete.

The project was jointly funded by both the city council and the Environment Agency (EA).

The 250-metre structure, which runs between Bristol Harbour Railway and Vauxhall Bridge, was built as part of the MetroBus scheme in Spike Island.

It aims to reduce the tidal flood risk to around 170 homes and businesses on Avon Crescent, Cumberland Road and Commercial Road.

The wall has been faced and capped with pennant stone, while metal railings have also been replaced.

Coastal Engineer for the EA, John Buttivant, said: "This is a great example of joined up working. Partnership between the Environment Agency and Bristol City Council has provided improved tidal flood resilience to this part of Bristol."
