Plans are to be approved for a £4.5 million bridge repair project in Leeds, it has been announced.

Councillors will meet on 22 June to consider proposals on repairing the Linton Bridge, which was badly damaged during flooding last Christmas.

Emergency repair work to protect the bridges foundation was carried out before Easter. However, the structures cracked southern arch remains at risk of collapse.

Design teams are now working to draw up a plan to repair the bridge, with features including installing a river platform, pre-fabricated arch support units and developing foundations of the temporary support structure in the river.

If approved, permanent repair works are expected to completed by summer 2017.

Cllr Richard Lewis said: "I think everyone now realises the challenge of repairing Linton Bridge is considerable and requires detailed and complex work, so is not something that can be done quickly. However, we are committed to completing these repairs as a key part of our response to the floods."
