Work is to begin on a £1.5 million resurfacing project on the M6 in Cumbria.

Highways England will start repairing a two-and-a-half mile section of the southbound M6 between Millness and Carnforth from Monday, 20 June.

The project involves resurfacing three carriageways, installing protection against bridge strikes, drainage repairs, placing new reflective road studs and laying refreshed road markings.

The eight-week scheme will be carried out between 8pm – 6am each night. Diversions will be in place.

Highways England project manager Peter Gee said: "These are important, if routine, wear and tear repairs to ensure drivers can continue to enjoy safe and smooth journeys along this section of the M6.

"During the resurfacing we'll be taking the opportunity to provide extra protection for bridges which will reduce the risk of collision damage which can lead to lane or full carriageway closures and delays to motorway users."
