UCATT Criticises Chancellor Following Work Debate

Construction News Image
UCATT, the construction industry union, has criticised the Chancellor George Osborne for his "abject performance" during the economy and work debate held on Thursday in the House of Commons.

The union believes it showed the complete lack of industrial strategy and economic policy of the Tory Government. Rather than present any feasible plan to stimulate growth across industrial sectors, the Tory Chancellor remains welded to the clear political choice of austerity economics.

UCATT Acting General Secretary Brian Rye said: "Yet again the Chancellor has shown his complete failure to address the much required investment needed to grow the economy.

"Despite the fact that the UK has its worst housing crisis in living memory, and no industrial strategy whatsoever, failing to deal with tax avoidance and undermining fairness in our economy, it is abundantly clear this Government does not care about workers and their families.

"The Tories are happy to serve up more austerity, and create more inequality in our society. Wages are still below recession levels and only those at the top are benefiting from the so-called economic recovery."
