Work is underway on the final phase of a bridge improvement scheme in North Yorkshire.

The project is taking place on a bridge which carries the A64 over the River Ouse at Bishopthorpe.

Highways England has installed a new bridge barrier on both carriageways and contractors will now replace the main structures expansion joint on the eastbound side.

For safety reasons, a 30mph speed limit with narrow lanes will be in place on the eastbound carriageway during daytime, before work is carried out overnight between 8pm – 6am.

Signed diversions will be in place.

Highways England project manager Tim Calvert said: "This project is necessary to ensure the continued safety of road users who use this route.

"The reduced speed limit is necessary to ensure the safety of motorists as well as the workers on site."

The project is expected to be completed by mid-July.
