Union UCATT has welcomed the decision by Land Securities to require all of its construction projects to pay the Living Wage.
Strict clauses have been inserted in all of the organisations tenders which states all contractors and sub-contractors must pay the Living Wage.
The decision was made after active lobbying and consultation with UCATT's London and South East region.
UCATT said some construction workers in London are paid only £7.30 an hour compared to the London Living Wage of £9.40 an hour.
Jerry Swain, Regional Secretary for UCATT's London and South East Region, said: "I commend Land Securities for their decision to introduce the Living Wage, in London this will be the difference between workers simply surviving and having sufficient income in order to be able to live."
Following Land Securities decision UCATT's London and South East Region will step up their campaign, including direct action, to ensure that all construction workers in London receive the London Living Wage.
