Work To Begin On Road Bridge Upgrade In Gloucestershire

Work is due to begin next week to upgrade a road bridge in Gloucestershire, Network Rail has announced.

Engineers will begin carrying out improvement works to the Dodington Road bridge in Chipping Sodbury from Monday, 23 May.

The scheme is part of Network Rail's £40 billion Railway Upgrade Plan to prepare for a new fleet of electric trains.

Works include raising the sides of the bridge and installing anti-climb coping stones, providing a barrier between the bridge's users and high voltage electric lines that will power the new trains.

To carry out the project safely, the bridge will be closed from 23 May until Sunday, 05 June.

Andy Haynes, Network Rail's project director for the west of England, said: "The work at Dodington Road bridge is an essential part of our Railway Upgrade Plan and will pave the way for electrification and the benefits this will bring for residents."
