Thomas Armstrong Secures Alston Railway Heritage Project

Thomas Armstrong (Construction) has been selected to help deliver a multi-million pound refurbishment project in Cumbria.

The firm will work with South Tynedale Railway to help redevelop the train repair shed at Alston.

The 23-week project is due to begin on 23 May and is being funded by a Heritage Lottery Fund grant.

Work includes over cladding, new windows and doors externally. Internal works will involve the formation of a new mezzanine floor and welfare facilities, a new structural screed, the formation of a new inspection pit and associated M&E.

New fencing, gates and footpaths will be developed externally at the site, including bases for mechanical plant.

Once completed, visitors can view restoration ration carried out by the railway at close hand.
