The UK Government must take "immediate action" on expanding Heathrow Airport, according to the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA).

Head of External Affairs at the CECA, Marie-Claude Hemming, said it is estimated the UK is losing nearly £1.2 billion a year due to a lack of airport capacity.

A House of Commons Transport Committee report also recommended the government commit to a third runway at the airport, as it offers "the greatest economic benefit" and "would do more to improve connectivity internationally and within the UK."

"Unless the congestion problem is addressed, the UK will become a less attractive place to do business with and to visit," Ms Hemming said.

"CECA calls on the Government to commit to the recommendations of the Davies Commission and the House of Commons Transport Committee for a third runway at Heathrow. This is a decision that must not be kicked into the long grass yet again."
