ScottishPower (SP) Energy Networks has completed a £2 million power upgrade project in the Mid Wales area.

The project involved a major overhaul of equipment at Newtown's grid substation.

The company installed modern infrastructure to boost the electricity supplies security, which will help provide power to over 40,000 homes/businesses.

Mark Sobczak, Head of 132kV Programmes at SP Energy Networks, said: "This project is strategically important, as it is designed to strengthen the electrical infrastructure for the electricity supplies in and around Newtown, as well as supplies across the surrounding areas of Welshpool and Llanidloes. The substation in Newtown is a key part of the wider regional high voltage network, where we have been investing tens of millions of pounds in the last few years. We have also recently completed major projects in Welshpool and Oswestry, as part of programme to deliver the most significant upgrades to the network in more than half a century.


"Our main contractor Iberdrola Engineering and Construction will remain on site for the next few months, working to remove some of the older equipment."
