Work is underway on a £70 million refurbishment scheme in Lambeth.

Morgan Sindall is delivering the Your New Town Hall project, which aims to regenerate Lambeth's Town Hall and civic buildings.

The scheme is being carried out for Muse Developments and project partner Lambeth Council.

Features include completely refurbishing the Grade II-listed Brixton Town Hall.

Works involve demolishing buildings to the rear of the hall, reinstating the original atrium with a new roof, installing new lifts, doors and windows, and modifying the basement to provide new office space and community facilities.

Morgan Sindall will also build a new six-storey energy efficient civic building with a customer centre and council offices, providing 11,000 sq ft of council office space.

Other features include refurbishing the Press building and transforming it into a bicycle park with linked changing and shower facilities, including a separate café.

Buckner Road will also be upgraded with a number of public realm improvements, traffic reconfiguration and brick paving/planters installation.

Other elements of the Your New Town Hall scheme includes 194 new homes, with 40% of those being 'affordable'.

Andrew Boyle, project director at Muse Developments said: "We are very pleased to be able to commence the main works for this flagship development in Brixton. We believe we will deliver the best possible development for the Your New Town Hall project, and see it as an opportunity to create something that everyone in the borough can benefit from."

Richard Dobson, Morgan Sindall's area director in London, added: "We're delighted to be starting work on this ambitious, multifaceted scheme to revitalise Lambeth's civil centre and deliver improved facilities for council staff and the community."

The project is due to be completed in spring 2018.
