A major coastal defence scheme has been completed at a beach in Dover.

The £1.95 million project was funded by the Environment Agency and will protect local homes at Kingsdown beach.

Works involved the placement of 16 new timber groynes and around 50,000 m2 of recycled shingle.

Designed through the East Kent Engineering Partnership, the project is part of the Pegwell Bay to Kingsdown Flood and Erosion Risk Management Strategy.

Martin Legatt, DDC Head of Assets & Building Control, said: "We are very pleased to see this major scheme in Kingsdown completed.

"Coastal protection and flood defences are vital for the safety of residents and the future of the district, and we continue to work closely with the EA and other partners to help protect the district."
