Keepmoat Completes £11m High-Rise Project In Smethwick

Keepmoat has completed a £11 million high-rise redevelopment scheme in Smethwick.

The company worked alongside Sandwell Council's urban high-rise team to transform three blocks comprising 270 homes at Ashcroft, Birchcroft and Elmcroft in the Cape Hill area.

Features include new roofs with energy efficient photo-voltaic panels and insulated cladding to reduce energy bills.

In addition, new windows and balconies were also installed.

The project, which has won two awards from the National Federation of Builders, is part of a wider £75m investment in council housing, including £50m on internal improvements to upgrade 6,000 council homes.

Over £1m was spent with local small and medium-sized businesses through the supply chain, while 12 apprenticeship opportunities have also been created.

Council Leader Darren Cooper said: "I'm extremely proud of the work we have been able to do here at The Crofts.

"These improvements have made a massive impact on both the external and internal appearance of the blocks as well as the local skyline.

"And the much improved insulation provided by the eye-catching cladding and new energy efficient windows and roof panels will help reduce fuel bills for tenants.

"This scheme shows the importance of investing in our council housing, not just to provide great homes for people but also good training and job opportunities to boost the local economy."

Neil Baxter, New Business Director for Keepmoat, added: "Improving the standard of housing is crucial for delivering community regeneration and this development has made a real difference to people's homes and lives."
