Network Rail To Undertake Railway Station Feasibility Study In Devon

A major feasibility study has been authorised to look into developing a new train station in Cambridgeshire.

Network Rail has been commissioned to undertake the Governance for Rail Infrastructure Projects (GRIP) 3 study by both Cambridgeshire County Council and East Cambridgeshire District Council.

The work will examine the possibility of building a new railway station in Soham.

The GRIP 3 review will assess what is required to deliver the development, ensuring it is economically viable and meets the councils' requirements.

East Cambridgeshire District Council Leader, James Palmer, said: "Soham is a growing town and a very popular place to live. It is only right that we, as local councils, press extremely hard for the infrastructure needed to coincide with housing growth."

A Network Rail spokesperson added: "We are working with our partners at Cambridgeshire County Council and East Cambridgeshire District Council to look into the design and feasibility of a new station at Soham that could potentially bring significant benefits to the area."
