Network Rail Signs Ordsall Chord Deal With Skanska/BAM Nuttall JV

Network Rail has selected a Skanska/BAM Nuttall joint venture (JV) to deliver the new Ordsall Chord project in Manchester.

A contract to build the new viaduct has been signed with the organisation, which includes Amey, Skanska, Bam Nuttall, and Siemens.

The scheme will link Manchester Victoria and Manchester Piccadilly for the first time, helping to deliver faster and more frequent trains as part of Network Rail's £40bn Railway Upgrade programme.

The project began with an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) phase, which has been running since 2013.

Mike Heywood, from Network Rail and manager of the alliance, said: "This is an exciting time for passengers, businesses and the rail industry in the north of England. A better railway supports jobs, housing and economic growth and the new Ordsall Chord has a massive role to play in opening up new and faster journeys.

"Within this alliance of organisations, we have a wide range of skills and experience to make this vital new stretch of railway a reality and deliver the service all rail passengers deserve."
