VolkerInfra (VI) has secured a £5 million contract to supply substation interconnectors and onshore export cables for an offshore wind farm site near Suffolk.
The EHV Cable Systems specialist was selected by GE's Grid Solutions to provide services for the Galloper Offshore Wind Farm.
The contract involves VI designing, supplying, installing and pre-commissioning test two 132kV onshore export cables (5300m cable in total), six No 132kV cable circuits in the Galloper substation (1350m in total), two 132kV cables to connect Galloper to a new substation at Sizewell (1660m in total), two 132kV offshore cables (180m in total) and six 33kV circuits totalling 1200m of cable.
Galloper Offshore Wind Farm is an extension of the Greater Gabbard Wind Farm, which can generate enough energy to power up to 336,000 UK households.
VI said up to 700 jobs will be created during construction and around 90 during operation of the new wind farm.
Technical development director, Peter Cooke, said: "Following on from the successful delivery of our first 132kV project for GE's Grid Solutions at Salle Substation, we are really excited to have been selected to support them on this much larger and more complex scheme.
"We are looking forward to establishing our site presence later this month."
