A major milestone has been reached on a £68 million council house refurbishment programme in Thurrock.

Wates Living Space Maintenance began Thurrock Council's Transforming Homes programme in 2013.

The contractor has now refurbished 2,500 properties on the scheme, which will eventually see over 10,300 homes upgraded by contract close in March 2018.

Features of the programme include refurbishing kitchens and bathrooms, electrical upgrades, boiler replacements, heating renewal, damp remedial works, roof renewal, structural repairs, external door replacements and window repairs.

David Morgan, MD of Wates Living Space Maintenance, said: "This investment by Thurrock Council has enabled us to inject new life into 2,500 properties over the last three years, improving energy efficiency and bringing them in line with modern requirements."

Cllr Lynn Worrall added: "The Transforming Homes programme is an example of how Thurrock Council is investing in its housing stock and improving the life of our residents right across the borough.

"The programme is ambitious but we are working with our housing partners and delivering on our promise."
