A Stockton-on-Tees landlord has been sentenced for carrying out illegal capping work on a boiler.
David John Wallman, of The Plantations, Wynyard, Stockton on Tees, pleaded guilty to breaching Regulation 3(1) of the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998.
He was handed a twenty-six week prison sentence suspended for twelve months.
In addition, he was sentenced to 200 hours unpaid community work with costs of £739.
Teeside Magistrates' Court heard how Mr Wallman uncapped and reconnected the gas supply of a domestic property in September 2014.
Gas supplier Northern Gas Networks had classified the work as "immediately dangerous".
A Health and Safety Executive (HSE) investigation into the incident found Mr Wallman, who had been a gas fitter registered with CORGI until 2001, had set out to fix the problem but his repair was inadequate and he left the installation in a dangerous state.
