Camden Council Approves HNCC Redevelopment

Construction News Image
Camden Council's Cabinet has approved the proposed redevelopment of the Highgate Newtown Community Centre (HNCC), which includes a new sports hall and premises for the Fresh Youth Academy (FYA) service.

The new development, which was supported by local residents during an extensive consultation period, will also contain new private for sale homes to fund the new community buildings.

Further consultation events will now take place to give residents the chance to have their say on the design and layout of the new structure prior to a planning application being submitted.

Councillor Phil Jones, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Transport and Planning said: "The buildings on the HNCC site are old, costly to run and maintain and have accessibility constraints. By redeveloping the site we can provide modern, purpose built facilities that will help ensure a sustainable future for organisations based there.

"Over the next few months we will be working closely with residents on the details of the design prior to the planning application being submitted. We urge everyone to get involved and have their say on the proposals to ensure that the new development meets the present and future needs of the local community with a wide range of activities and services."

The redevelopment of HNCC is part of the Council's Community Investment Programme, a 15 year plan to invest money in schools, homes and community facilities.
