Works to improve traffic flow on Middlesbrough's Cargo Fleet Lane and the surrounding road network are underway.
The first of two schemes to be put into place will be an upgrade of the traffic signals at the junction of A171 Cargo Fleet Lane and A1085 Longlands Road - known locally as the Brambles Farm junction.
This scheme will improve the resilience of the junction and its ability to handle heavy traffic flows during the morning and evening peak periods.
Work at the junction started on Sunday, 28 February, with completion expected by mid-April.
In order to minimise disruption to traffic, temporary traffic lights will be in operation, and the contractor will work seven days a week to ensure that the works are completed as soon as possible.
Lane closures will also be restricted to off-peak periods to maximise traffic flow.
The second scheme will involve widening of Cargo Fleet Lane at its junction with Cranmore Road to create a separate lane for right turning traffic, again easing traffic flows during busy times of the day.
These works are due to be carried out later in 2016 - full details of the traffic management arrangements for this scheme will follow once the start date for the works has been confirmed.
Councillor Charlie Rooney, Deputy Mayor and Executive Member for Regeneration, said: "Cargo Fleet Lane is one of the busiest roads in the town, and drivers travelling on the section between Cranmore Road and Longlands Road regularly experience congestion and delays at peak times.
"The improvement schemes at both junctions will tackle this issue and ensure that Middlesbrough's road network remains fit for purpose over the coming years."
