The Welsh Government's Finance Minister Jane Hutt has visited the site of a new £30 million learning campus project in Flintshire.

Ms Hutt attended the construction site alongside representatives from the council on Tuesday, 16 February.

The Holywell Learning Campus scheme is being built by Galliford Try and involves bringing two primary schools, Ysgol Perth y Terfyn Infants and Ysgol y Fron Junior school, under one roof, as well as a new facility for Holywell High School.

The development is part of the Welsh government's 21st Century Schools programme.

The three-storey secondary school will have 600 places, while the single-storey primary school will contain 315 places.

To date, the project has impacted the local economy with contracts worth around £10m placed in the local supply chain and nine apprenticeships created.

Ms Hutt said: "We are committed to investing in our children's education so they have the best opportunities to learn and develop in a new modern and vibrant learning environment.

"The new Holywell Learning Campus is a great example of that and I have been pleased to see how the £15.5 million funding we have provided through our 21st Century Schools and Education Programme is delivering the best possible facilities for children in the area."

Jim Parker, MD for Galliford Try Building North West, added: "Holywell Learning Campus is a flagship construction project for North Wales that is providing real benefits for local people, in terms of jobs, training and investment in the local economy."
