Mace Group has won an accolade at the the UK Rail Industry Awards in London.
The company took home the 'Outstanding Project over £20 million' category for its work on Birmingham New Street Station.
The £750m five-year project involved working in partnership with Network Rail to create a new triple height atrium and better transport connections, increasing capacity from 32 million to 52 million passengers a year.
In addition, all 12 platforms were refurbished and a new retail shopping centre called Grand Central was created.
Chris Montgomery, Network Rail's Project Director, said: "To undertake the volume of heavy engineering work within a live station and to do so keeping the station operational is one thing – to do it with such a fantastic safety record and care for the travelling public is phenomenal and a credit to all involved.
"From the load transfer that saw 200 tonnes of steel being transferred onto the existing concrete structure over two weekends in summer, to the modular service ‘spine' which was built off-site then installed in just 15 days, saving over 10,000 working hours and reducing carbon emissions by 57%."
COO for Major Programmes and Infrastructure at Mace, Jason Millett, added: "It's a great honour to win this award, which is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of everyone who worked on the project."
