Carillion Reaches 'Major' Milestone On Anfield Expansion Project

Carillion has reached a 'major' milestone on a football stadium expansion project in Liverpool.

The firm has been working to extend Liverpool Football Club's (LFC) main stand at Anfield since January last year.

A topping out ceremony has now been held to mark the project reaching its highest point.

The extension will add around 8,500 seats, increase the Main Stands capacity to over 20,000 and increase the overall stadiums quantity to 54,000.

In addition, the redeveloped stand is set to comprise three tiers and the existing lower tier re-profiled to accommodate a widened player tunnel, new team benches, media platform and wheelchair viewing positions.

The project remains on target for completion during the 2016/17 season.

Carillion Director Mark Nicholson was joined by a number of guests including

ex-players, LFC Chief Executive Ian Ayre and first-team manager Jürgen Klopp during the topping out ceremony yesterday, 11 February.

"We are delighted to have reached another milestone in the progress of the Main Stand extension," Mr Nicholson said.

"This project to create new world-class facilities at Anfield, has also benefited local businesses and people through opportunities of work and training through apprenticeships."

Ian Ayre, LFC CEO, added: "We are absolutely delighted with the progress and are looking forward to having even more fans supporting the team at Anfield when the Main Stand opens next season."
