Scaffolding Firm Fined After Worker Falls Through Roof Light

A scaffolding company has been fined after an employee fell through a roof light during work at an industrial unit in Dorset.

Weller Scaffolding Limited of Westway Business Park, Dottery Road, Bridport, Dorset, pleaded guilty to breaching Regulation 4(1) of the Work at Height Regulations 2005.

It was fined £10,000 with over £5,600 in costs.

Weymouth Magistrates’ Court heard how the company had been employed to erect access scaffold and perimeter handrails around the roof of a small industrial unit at East Road in Bridport on 17 July 2014.

An employee working for the scaffolder accessed the asbestos cement roof, however he fell through one of the intermittent roof lights.

A Health and Safety Executive (HSE) investigation discovered the incident happened due to work not being properly planned, or appropriately supervised.
