Cheshire Company Fined After Worker Crushed By Falling Bricks

A Cheshire-based firm has been fined after a bricklayer was killed when a pack of bricks fell on top of him in Wilmslow.

Edgemere Projects Ltd pleaded guilty to breaching Sections 2(1) & 3(1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

It was fined £97,500 with costs of £300,000.

Liverpool Crown Court heard the company was the main contractor at the construction site on 07 January 2011.

However Andrew Dytiche, 23, was killed after sustaining fatal crush injuries when a brick stack fell on him.

An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found the storage of materials was poorly organised and pallets used to store/move bricks around were also in a poor condition.

HSE Principal Inspector Neil Jamieson said: "This was a tragic accident which could have been prevented had the company ensured that materials on the site were stored and stacked safely."
