Wates Construction has appointed Tom Rice as its new Design Director.

Previously, Mr Rice worked at Laing O'Rourke as Head of Design Management for Construction North of England and Scotland.

In his new role at Wates, he will again be responsible for developing the company's design management function in Northern England and implementing the Group's Design Strategy.

Speaking on his new role, Mr Rice said: "Wates Construction has a hard earned reputation and a proven track record for delivering innovation and excellence across all projects. I am looking forward to playing a key part in this and growing Wates' presence in commercial, industrial and urban residential markets in the North."

With 25 years' experience in the industry, Mr Rice is a chartered architect with a portfolio that includes the Trinity Retail development in Leeds and Manchester Town Hall and Central Library.
