Three firms and a director have been charged with safety offences after a large steel structure collapsed and killed four workers in Norfolk.

Following an investigation, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has charged:

• Claxton Engineering Services Ltd of Ferryside, Ferry Road, Norwich, Norfolk, under Section 3 of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 (HSWA).

• Encompass Project Management Ltd, of The Gables, Old Market Street, Thetford, Norfolk, under Section 3 HSWA.

• David Groucott, Director of Encompass Project Management Ltd, under Section 37 of HSWA.

• Hazegood Construction Ltd, of Bury Lodge, Bury Road, Stowmarket, Suffolk, under Sections 2 and 3 of HSWA.

It is understood Thomas and Daniel Hazelton, Adam Taylor and Peter Johnson were erecting the framework in a pit at Claxton Engineering Services’ yard on 21 January 2011.

However, the structure collapsed on top of them, killing all four men.

The defendants will appear at Great Yarmouth Magistrates’ Court on 02 February 2016.
