Mace Group has been selected as project manager on a £7 million medical unit scheme in Manchester.

The Group was chosen by The Christie NHS Foundation Trust to manage work on a new integrated procedures unit at The Christie Hospital.

Services of the unit will include radiology, the procedure unit, pain service, plastic surgery, endoscopy and day case surgery.

The project will be built above the existing main entrance to the hospital and have key interfaces with adjacent units.

The IPU (including plant room) provides a gross internal floor area (GIFA) of 1,375 m2 while the project involves delivering 900m2 of usable space on the ground floor.

In addition, part of the ward will be refurbished to later become integrated within the IPU.

Martin Wood, Head of Capital at The Christie said: "The IPU will provide a range of services that are currently spread across the hospital. This exciting and ambitious project will bring these services together in one place, our patients will benefit from reduced waiting times, faster treatments, improved dignity and a better overall patient experience."

The project is due for completion in spring 2017.
